Al censimento del 2001 la popolazione di Midnapore assommava a 153.349 persone, delle quali 78.365 maschi e 74.984 femmine. I bambini di età inferiore o uguale ai sei anni assommavano a 15.213, dei quali 7.746 maschi e 7.467 femmine. Infine, coloro che erano in grado di saper almeno leggere e scrivere erano 115.448, dei quali 62.509 maschi e 52.939 femmine.[5]

Medinipur Town or Midnapore Town (Pron: med̪iːniːpur) is a locality in Kharagpur, West Bengal state of India . With it's Municipality constituted in 1865, it is the secoWest Medinipur district. It is situated on the banks of the Kangsabati River (variously known as Kasai and Cossye). The Urban Agglomeration of Midnapore consists of the city proper, Mohanpur, Keranichoti and Khayerullachak. With the Midnapore Kharagpur Development Authority Region consisting of nearly 1 million people, the city, along with Kharagpur, is one of the principal econnomic and financial hubs in West Bengal.
