As of 2001^[update] India census,[2] Barkot had a population of 16568. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Barkot has an average literacy rate of 84.5%, higher than the national average of 74%; with 93% of the males and 77% of females literate. 54% of the population is under 6 years of age.
