    La ville s'est formée autour de son château, dont les premières mentions remontent à 1226. Les premiers seigneurs de Langenbourg semblent étroitement liés à la famille de Hohenlohe, si bien que quand ils s'éteignirent, les Hohenlohe en héritèrent, et Langenbourg passa pour plusieurs siècles dans le comté de Hohenlohe.

    En 1568 devint la résidence des comtes d'Hohenlohe, et quand le comté fut divisé, la capitale du comté de Hohenlohe-Langenbourg.

    Langenburg ist eine Stadt im fränkisch geprägten Nordosten Baden-Württembergs in der Region Hohenlohe und gehört zum Landkreis Schwäbisch Hall. Urkundlich erwähnt wurde die Stadt erstmals 1226. Von 1568 bis zur Mediatisierung 1806 war Langenburg die Residenzstadt der Grafschaft und des späteren Fürstentums Hohenlohe-Langenburg. Mit 1903 Einwohnern (Stand Oktober 2020)[2] gehört Langenburg zu den kleinsten Städten des Landes Baden-Württemberg.
