Mayerlis Angarita was born here in about 1980. She has won awards for her leadership on women's rights and she has been a mayoral candidate.[2]

Tiene un área de 637 km² y en él se encuentra el Santuario de fauna y flora Los Colorados, reserva fundamental de la especie del mono colorado, entre otros de interés.
