Histoire

Pendant les dynasties Xia et Shang, Benxi faisait partie de Gingzhou et Yingzhou, pendant la dynastie Tang, Benxi était gouverné par la préfecture de Liaocheng, province d'Andong.^{[à recycler]}

Le 26 avril 1942, une explosion dans la mine de charbon de Liutang (柳塘, Honkeiko en japonais) appartenant à la mine de Benxihu fit 1 549 morts, la plus grande perte humaine recensée dans un accident minier. Après l'explosion, le directeur japonais de la mine aurait fait arrêter l'aération, parant au danger d'incendie mais condamnant à mort tous ceux qui se trouvaient sous terre[2].

Subdivisions administratives

La ville-préfecture de Benxi exerce sa juridiction sur six subdivisions - quatre districts et deux xian autonomes :

• Le district de Mingshan - 明山区 Míngshān Qū ;

• Le xian autonome mandchou de Huanren - 桓仁满族自治县 Huánrén mǎnzú Zìzhìxiàn.

Sie hat eine Fläche von 8.428 km² und 1.326.018 Einwohner (Stand: Zensus 2020). Nach der Bevölkerungszahl ist Benxi die kleinste bezirksfreie Stadt der Provinz.[3]

Benxi (Chinese: 本溪, pun-shee) is a prefecture-level city located in the east of Liaoning province, People's Republic of China, south-southeast of the provincial capital Shenyang. As of the 2020 census, its population was 1,326,018 (1,709,538 in 2010) whom 809,655 lived in the built-up area made of 3 urban districts (Pingshan, Xihu and Mingshan). It was founded as a metallurgical center in 1915. Benxi Iron and Steel Company (Bengang) is the largest employer in the city, and used to be the fourth-largest steel company in China. The second-largest industry in Benxi is coal mining. The city has pollution problems due to steel production and coal mining.
