    Histoire


    La ville a été nommée en l'honneur du Lieutenant-Colonel James Farquharson Macleod (1836-1894) qui y établit un poste de la police montée du Nord-Ouest en 1874[3].

    Fort Macleod ist eine kleine Stadt im Südwesten der kanadischen Provinz Alberta. Sie liegt am Oldman River, 170 Kilometer südlich von Calgary und 50 Kilometer westlich von Lethbridge. Ihren Namen hat die Siedlung nach dem ehemaligen Lieutenant-Colonel und Commissioner James Farquharson Macleod der North West Mounted Police.

    Fort Macleod (/məˈklaʊd/ mə-KLOWD) is a town in southern Alberta, Canada. It was originally named Macleod to distinguish it from the North-West Mounted Police barracks (Fort Macleod, built 1874) it had grown around. The fort was named in honour of the then Commissioner of the North-West Mounted Police, Colonel James Macleod. Founded as the Municipality of the Town of Macleod in 1892, the name was officially changed to the already commonly used Fort Macleod in 1952.[7]
