La ville se situe par une latitude de 02° 26' 34" sud et par une longitude de 54° 42' 28" ouest, à une altitude de 51 mètres.

Sa population était de 274 285 habitants au recensement de 2007[2]. La municipalité s'étend sur 22 887 km²[3].

Son économie est très active dans le Port de Santarém.

Sport

La ville dispose de son propre stade de football, le Stade Colosso do Tapajós, qui sert d'enceinte à domicile au club de football du São Raimundo EC.

Juli 2021 auf 308.339 Einwohner geschätzt, die Santarenos oder Mocorongos[2] genannt werden und auf einer großen Gemeindefläche von rund 17.898 km² leben.[1] Sie liegt etwa 807 km westlich der Landeshauptstadt Belém. Sie ist Sitz der Metropolregion Santarém.

Santarém (Portuguese pronunciation: [sɐ̃taˈɾẽj]) is a city and municipality in the western part of the state of Pará in Brazil. Located at the confluence of the Tapajós and Amazon Rivers, it has become a popular tourist destination. It is the second-most important city in the state, and the financial and economic center of the western part of the state. It leads the Santarém Metropolitan Area, made up of Santarém, Belterra and Mojuí dos Campos. It was once home to the Tapajós Indians, a tribe of Native Americans after whom the river was named. They were the leaders of a large, agricultural chiefdom that flourished before the arrival of Europeans.
