Cornwall was gazetted as a locality in 1973.[3]
It was named by Governor King in 1804, presumably because, like Cornwall in Britain, it was a major coal mining area.[4]
Cornwall is totally surrounded by the locality of St Marys.[5]
Route A4 (Esk Main Road) passes to the south of the locality, from where Cornwall Road provides access.[3][6]
