Northam liegt im Westen des Staats etwa 85 Kilometer östlich der Hauptstadt Perth. Der Sitz des Shire Councils befindet sich in der Stadt Northam, wo etwa 6600 Einwohner leben (2016)[2]

Verwaltung

Der Northam Council hat zehn Mitglieder. Die Councillor werden von den Bewohnern der vier Wards (fünf aus dem Town Ward, je zwei aus dem Central und West und einer aus dem East Ward) gewählt. Aus dem Kreis der Councillor rekrutiert sich auch der Ratsvorsitzende und Shire President.

The Shire of Northam is a local government area in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, beyond the northeastern fringe of the Perth metropolitan area centred on the town of Northam itself. The Shire covers an area of 1,431 square kilometres (553 sq mi). In 2007, it merged with the Town of Northam, almost tripling its population in the process from a previous size of 3,794 (ABS 2006).
