Entdeckung

Abel Tasman lichtete 1642 als Erster vor einer kleinen Insel am südlichen Teil der Bucht Anker, und landete im Gebiet, welches er Frederick Henricx Bay (jetzt Blackman Bay) nannte.[1] Die Bucht wurde später nach dem Navigator Marion du Fresne, welcher in seinem Mascarin und der "Marquis de Castries" im März 1772 landete. Marion schrieb: „One sailor found numbers of crayfish, lobsters and huge crabs, and the oysters there are good and abundant“[2]

Festival

Marion Bay veranstaltete das erste tasmanische Falls Festival im Dezember 2003 mit mehr als 10.000 Besuchern und es wurde ein jährliches Ereignis.

Marion Bay is a rural / residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Sorell in the South-east LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 27 kilometres (17 mi) east of the town of Sorell. The 2016 census provides a population of 72 for the state suburb of Marion Bay.[1] Marion Bay is also a large bay on the south-east coast of Tasmania. Its south-western shore is contained by the Marion Bay Important Bird Area.
