Cootamundra lag im Osten der Murrumbidgee-Region etwa 170 km nordwestlich der australischen Hauptstadt Canberra und 380 km westlich der Metropole Sydney. Das Gebiet umfasste 19 Ortsteile und Ortschaften: Brawlin, Carinyah, Cootamundra, Cullinga, Dudauman, Frampton, Gundibindyal, Jindalee, Kilrush, Kyron, Landgrove, Meemar, Morrisons Hill, Stockinbingal, Wallendbeen, Willows, Yannawah, Yeo Yeo und ein Teil von Jugiong. Der Sitz des Shire Councils befand sich in Cootamundra, wo heutzutage etwa 5.669 Einwohner leben.[2]

Verwaltung

Der Cootamundra Shire Council hatte zwölf Mitglieder, die von den Bewohnern der LGA gewählt wurden. Cootamundra war nicht in Bezirke untergliedert. Aus dem Kreis der Councillor rekrutierte sich auch der Mayor (Bürgermeister) des Councils.

Cootamundra Shire was a local government area in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire was located adjacent to the Olympic Highway, the Burley Griffin Way and the Main South railway line. The Shire included the town of Cootamundra and the small towns of Stockinbingal, Brawlin and Wallendbeen and the locality of Frampton. The Shire was created on 1 April 1975 by the amalgamation of Jindalee Shire and the Municipality of Cootamundra.[3]
