La città è stata fondata nel 1979, per dare alloggio ai lavoratori della centrale nucleare, che è stata costruita in quella zona. Metsamor è nota anche per le rovine dell'antico castello.

Mezamor (armenisch Մեծամոր) ist eine Stadt in der Provinz Armawir in Armenien, 23 km südwestlich der armenischen Hauptstadt Jerewan. Sie wurde 1969 gegründet, um die Mitarbeiter des Kernkraftwerks Oktemberjan (heute Kernkraftwerk Mezamor) unterzubringen. Stadtrecht erhielt Mezamor im Jahr 1992. Der Name der Stadt leitet sich vom nahe gelegenen Fluss Mezamor ab. Im Jahr 2009 hatte Mezamor 10.287 Einwohner.[en] Metsamor
Metsamor (Armenian: Մեծամոր, Armenian pronunciation: [mɛt͡sɑˈmoɾ]), is a town and urban municipal community in the Armavir Province of Armenia. It is famous for being home to Armenia's Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant, the only nuclear plant in the Transcaucasian region. As of the 2011 census, the town had a population of 9,191.
