Confina con il Turkmenistan (province di Ahal e di Mary) a nord, con le province di Badghis a nord-est, di Ghowr a est e di Farah a sud e con l'Iran (Khorasan) a ovest.

La guerra

Herat (persisch هرات) ist eine Provinz (velayat) im westlichen Afghanistan im Tal des Hari Rud. Die Provinz grenzt im Westen an den Iran und im Norden an Turkmenistan, ihre Hauptstadt ist die namensgebende Stadt Herat. Die Provinz hat eine Fläche von 55.869 Quadratkilometern und 2.234.660 Einwohner (Stand: 2022),[1] die meisten von ihnen werden der tadschikischen Ethnie zugeordnet. Die in Herat gesprochene Varietät des Persischen ähnelt dem im iranischen Maschhad gesprochenen Dialekt. Herat hat eine günstige Lage an den Handelsrouten zwischen Iran, Indien, der Volksrepublik China und Europa. Die Straßen nach Turkmenistan und in den Iran sind noch immer von strategischer Bedeutung.

Herat (Pashto/Dari: هرات) is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan, located in the north-western part of the country. Together with Badghis, Farah, and Ghor provinces, it makes up the north-western region of Afghanistan. Its primary city and administrative capital is Herat City. The province of Herat is divided into about 17 districts and contains over 2,000 villages. It has a population of about 3,780,000, making it the second most populated province in Afghanistan behind Kabul Province.[2] The population is multi-ethnic but largely Persian-speaking. Herat dates back to the Avestan times and was traditionally known for its wine. The city has a number of historic sites, including the Herat Citadel and the Musalla Complex. During the Middle Ages Herat became one of the important cities of Khorasan, as it was known as the Pearl of Khorasan.

Расположена на западе страны, границе с Ираном и Туркменией. На северо-востоке граничит с провинцией Бадгис, с которой связан перевалом Сабзак, на востоке — с Гор, на юге — с Фарах.
