Storia


L'insediamento è antecedente al tempo dei romani, sebbene esso si sviluppò a partire dal periodo sassone. Otley era conosciuta come Ottanlege nel 972 e Otelai nel Domesday Book del 1086.[2][3]


Geografia


Otley si trova a 45 km a sud ovest di York, a 16 km a nord ovest di Leeds e a 16 km a nord est di Bradford. Il paese è collocato nella parte bassa della valle di Wharferdale ed è circondato da campi agricoli. La parte storica di Otley si trova sulla riva meridionale del fiume Wharfe, mentre durante il XX secolo il paese si sviluppò anche sulla riva settentrionale.

Ad ovest di Otley si trovano i paesi di Burley-in-Wharferdale e Menston. Ad est Pool-in-Wharferdale. A sud Guiseley e Yeadon.

Otley ist eine Kleinstadt im Metropolitan Borough City of Leeds der englischen Grafschaft West Yorkshire. Laut Volkszählung besaß Otley im Jahre 2001 insgesamt 14.124 Einwohner. Sie liegt am Fluss Wharfe und ist ca. acht Kilometer vom Flughafen Leeds/Bradford entfernt.

Otley is a market town and civil parish at a bridging point on the River Wharfe, in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough in West Yorkshire, England. Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the population was 13,668 at the 2011 census.[1] It is in two parts: south of the river is the historic town of Otley and to the north is Newall, which was formerly a separate township. The town is in lower Wharfedale on the A660 road which connects it to Leeds.
